San Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join SPSM and San Jose Jazz for a live performance with Silicon Gulch Jazz Band on Friday, May 8th, 2015 @ 7:00pm in the market plaza in downtown san jose.

Silicon Gulch Jazz Band has been playing traditional jazz and early swing music since 1980. The band was started by Joe Bithell, a Bay Area musician with a colorful background, when Silicon Valley was in its infancy. He had a love for early jazz—a music with roots stretching back to the 1920’s and 1930’s—and founded this group to pay homage to this familiar sound. The band uses the same instrumentation found in early New Orleans jazz bands; trombone, cornet, and clarinet. Their rhythm section always includes banjo too. It’s happy music, great for listening, dancing, dining, and having a good time. Separate from this concert, Silicon Gulch Jazz Band plays every Tuesday night at The Swingin’ Door in San Mateo.

San Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join SPSM and San Jose Jazz for a live performance with Wally Schnalle on Friday, April 24th, 2015 @ 7:00pm in the Market Plaza.

Wally Schnalle is well-known in the South Bay scene–a drummer who seamlessly moves from straight-ahead pocket to a free, experimental fusion, his concerts are fresh, new, unique. Schnalle brings IF3 to San Pedro Square Market, a new iteration of electronic group Idiot Fish featuring Schnalle on drums and electronics, Hristo Vitchev on guitar, and Dan Robbins on bass. This trio is evidence of the further evolution of Wally’s technological and compositional, boundary-pushing style.

All About Jazz and Improvijazzation rave about Schnalle’s concept; Tyran Grillo from All About Jazz notes, “Schnalle nourishes an integrated field of sound that at once evokes seventies nostalgia and progressive futurism.”
