San Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join SPSM and San Jose Jazz for a live performance with the Mason Razavi Quartet on Friday, November 28th, 2014 @ 7:00pm in the Market Garage.
The melding of rock beginnings with a devout love for classical guitar has formed the unique sound of Mason Razavi. Starting as a self-taught rock guitarist, Razavi devoted his life to the classical guitar after hearing the music of Andres Segovia at age 22. During this period Mason wrote all of the music that would form his jazz-influenced classical guitar album People, Places, and Monsters. He has since returned to jazz and the electric guitar, and his newest release Quartet Plus features originals from the perspective of a jazz quartet and nonet. Though first and foremost a jazz guitarist/composer, his diverse background has led him to play in a variety of settings ranging from rock bands to accompanying concert choirs, backing up jazz singers, and as a classical soloist. Mason holds a M.A. in Jazz Studies from San Jose State University and a B.M. from the Berklee College of Music where he studied jazz composition and majored in Contemporary Writing and Production, and has performed at the Wilshire Ebell Theater, Paradise Rock Club, and on stage at the San Jose Repertory Theater as well as countless gigs as a sideman and leader of his own groups.
