The jazz ensemble performs diverse styles of music such as swing, Latin, bebop, ragtime, and pop/rock/jazz fusion. Clinicians who specialize in various jazz styles will also guest lecture during the year, helping students gain a deeper understanding about the performance style. Members of this ensemble explore improvising and playing in smaller “combo” groups. Students in this ensemble typically take this class as their second music elective in addition to taking a foreign language and Symphonic Band or Wind Ensemble.
