San Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join SPSM and San Jose Jazz for a live performance with the Charged Particles on Friday, April 17th, 2015 @ 7:00pm in the market garage.
Founded 22 years ago in Ohio, Charged Particles has quickly been gaining visibility in performance venues around the Bay Area since 2010. Their blend of funky Afro-Latin jazz includes original compositions by the band members and fresh interpretations of rarely-heard tunes by contemporaries such as Lyle Mays and Cedar Walton. The band made its debut on National Public Radio’s live performance program, “Detroit Jazz Alive”, originating in Detroit, Michigan, and has performed in hundreds of venues around the world since then, including its most recent international tour of Sweden.
The band’s recent CD, Sparks, was named one of the eight “must-hear” jazz releases of the year by The Other Paper, and the opening track from Sparks was included on the Jazziz on Disc sampler CD mailed to 85,000 subscribers of Jazziz Magazine. Most recently, the group took the stage at Yoshi’s accompanying innovative guitarist Nguyen Le playing his compositions and later did the same accompanying world-renowned reed player Paul McCandless playing his music. McCandless and Charged Particles will be touring together this coming year. The band’s appearance in the Music at the Market series will be a special treat for listeners to hear their core repertoire.
