01-Steven-Graves-Band-Summer-2015.jpg

Steven’s musical career is unfolding just as is his dream and vision for a better world. In just three short years since committing to a full-time career in music, he has released five CDs. Time Will Tell – his most recent – is his third full-length CD. Music from the heart, organic, socially conscious and thought-provoking are just some of the acronyms used to describe his music. Embracing sounds from the early California Country songwriters (Eagles, J. Brown, etc), Steven takes off into his own original musical expressions unafraid to let the music unfold in its most authentic form.

Sweet HayaH w/ opener ZoTobi: Saturday, June 4th @ 7pm

main-hero-7.jpg

HayaH is the Arabic and Hebrew word for “life", and Sweet HayaH has a lust for life that pulsates through the music they create. Sweet HayaH is a high-energy festival band, but don’t think that the sweetness makes them pure sugar. There is genuine musical complexity layered into their Rock-Soul-Funk blend, and if there was to be one band to represent the diversity of culture and exuberance found in the Bay Area it would be Sweet HayaH. All of the members of Sweet HayaH were first local musicians in their own right, and since they converged the band’s reach has grown bigger and bigger. Sweet HayaH has kept up an impressive touring schedule and taken their high energy live show all over in 2015 including a run to SXSW. Sweet HayaH has had the honor of performing with some great bands and artists along the way sharing the stage with living legends like Robby Krieger of The Doors.

original.jpg

Positive as Michael Franti, epic as the Dave Matthews Band, and infectious as Nahko & Medicine for the People, Zo Tobi delivers a soulful soundtrack for change, to awaken the hero’s heart of humanity.

His songs effortlessly combine the energy of modern rock, the passion of gospel, and the catchiness of pop. In-studio and onstage, Zo’s rhythmic grooves, musical prowess, lyrical depth, and emotional power call on us to find our place, play our part, and do what we came here to do.

Born to a socially-conscious, middle-class, multicultural Israeli-American family, Zo grew up with the message to “live the life you came to live, and make the contribution you’re here to make.” At age 16, his 80-year old mentor woke him up out of a sense of resignation and powerlessness, saying: “When you’re my age, your grandkids will ask what you did with your life.”

By college, he dove head-first into the movement for climate justice. A few years out, after working 80 hours a week as a grassroots organizer, he found himself “burnt out” and lost. After a time of soul-searching and spiritual awakening, he embarked on a rigorous course of training as a leadership coach, and began supporting social change leaders to thrive and amplify their impact. Now, Zo writes, records, and performs, while working as a coach and entrepreneur to spread wisdom teachings to those who are dedicating their lives to their communities.

The Dizzy Burnett Jazz Duo: Sunday, June 5th @ 1pm

San Pedro Square Market Live Music: Week of May 23

San Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join SPSM for live performances in Downtown San Jose the week of May 23rd, 2016 featuring: Local Traffic Band, 5 O'Clock Shadow, Soul Track Mind, The Johnny Neri Band, and Diminished Blue w/ Charles Begun.

Local Traffic Band: Thursday, May 26th @ 7:00pm

local-traffic-band3-1.jpg

Formed in the Summer of 2002, local traffic combines the songs you love – and will love – while giving them a unique sound and spin. Originally a 4-piece rock band, local traffic played every venue in the area – from the Gilroy Garlic Festival, and the Catalyst in Santa Cruz, to the San Jose Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon – until the two founders decided to focus on their two favorite instruments…the ukulele and double bass. As a duo, local traffic has performed at many private events, corporate events, and weddings.

5 O'Clock Shadow: Friday, May 27th @ 7:00pm

img_9528-002810029.jpg

Walter can’t stop picking up new instruments and trying to play them. At age 10, he picked up a trumpet. Later he picked up a guitar, then a piano (that was heavy!) - singing all the time. In 5os he sings, plays guitar, trumpet, and whatever else they’ll let him. He’s now in an instrument addiction intervention group. Sometimes he’s from California, Sometimes he's from Argentina.

Dan doesn't remember an age that he didn't play music. His initial desire to play the Trombone was ironically thwarted by his then short arms. He has performed with a variety of ensembles from Irish to concert bands. He enjoys drumming and singing with 5os!

Rich started playing bass in 1976 after he traded Tennis lessons for guitar lessons. He bought a McCartney Beatles bass replica and built his first speaker cabinet at age 15. It worked surprisingly well (just ask his neighbors). Ever since, he's been laying down the groove in dozens of Rock, Blues, Pop, and R&B groups. Oh, he sings too!

As a kid, Jon hated practicing the violin so he switched to guitar. Jon has been playing in bands for more than three decades. In his previous projects, he has played rock, pop, R&B, blues, and funk. He likes to play crunchy, rhythmic textures and distinct leads. Oh, he sings too!

Soul Track Mind: Saturday, May 28th @ 1:00pm

1454694081091.jpeg

When Donovan Keith moved to Austin in 2008 to form Soul Track Mind, he couldn’t read music or play an instrument, and he’d never fronted a band. In fact, he’d never even sung in one. But within a few months after he met self-taught guitarist Jonathon Zemek, Soul Track Mind had a regular Wednesday-night gig at an East Austin speakeasy, where they quickly earned a following while honing their energized mix of R&B, funk, pop, rock and blues. Eighteen months later, Soul Track Mind released their first album, Ghost of Soul, and earned mention in a New York Times magazine story about soul music’s revival.
Accolades continued as they built audiences in 20 states (with airplay internationally) and recorded in the same Muscle Shoals, Ala., studio as their heroes had. Earl Thomas, the blues/soul singer who encouraged Keith to pursue his dream after hearing some vocal tracks Keith had sent him, also encouraged the band to stretch beyond their original retro-soul foundation to find their own groove. Their self-titled second album moved in that direction — and drew praise from the Huffington Post, which enthused, “Soul Track Mind’s performances are not just stylish [horn] solos and blurry guitar riffs; they are a cultural exclamation point about American music.”

The Johnny Neri Band: Saturday May 28th @ 7:00pm

2015-02-08JohnnyN0063-Rev.jpg

The Johnny Neri Band is a four piece high energy Classic Rock and Rock’n Soul Dance Band. These four musicians have over 100 years of music experience between them and it shows in every  performance. They pride themselves on the fact that they use no special effects, no gimmicks, no pre- recorded music, just raw talent that comes from years of experience and excellent four part harmony. Playing songs from over seven decades of music this band can please all audiences with hundreds of songs in their repertoire from many different genres of music. They perform at clubs, private parties and festivals all over the Bay Area.
