Raised in San Jose, California, Sutton Marley first became exposed to jazz music in high school and has been playing professionally around the San Francisco Bay Area ever since. In 2009, he attended the prestigious University of North Texas with a scholarship in Jazz Studies. Since relocating back to the Bay Area in 2010 to pursue an English degree at the University of California Davis, he has shared the stage with some of the South Bay’s best jazz musicians including John Worley, Oscar Pangilinan, Murray Low, Rick Vandivier, John Shifflett, Modesto Briseno, Aaron Lington, Brian Ho, and Greg Chen. More recently, he has been performing regularly with The Mark Arroyo Trio, including at a performance in the spring of 2012 opening for Blue Note recording artist Robert Glasper, and with Oscar Pangilinan's group, The Bad Four. Along the way, Sutton has been fortunate enough to study privately with such gifted teachers as Wally Schnalle, Jason Lewis, and Ed Soph. In addition, he has been an active contributor to the South Bay jazz community as a volunteer for the San Jose Jazz Society, as well as a faculty member at their 2010 and 2011 summer jazz camps, where he taught an introductory drumset course and lead student combos. "Rock, roll, rhythm, and blues is what we started with in the early 60’s......we listened to and played it all. Music was not so focused as it is today. People danced and enjoyed it; musicians experimented. Call it what you like, it’s me and my friends doing what we do......”Do you like the Blues? Do you like old school R&B? Do you like real Rock? You will love the Bob Gonzalez Band!

Spill The Wine: Saturday, November 17th @ 6:00pm
