Grooveyard Shift is a fresh and interesting addition to the Bay Area music scene and a rarity among bands playing in the South Bay. The vibraphone gives Grooveyard Shift a unique texture and sound that both leads and supports the combination of
original tunes mixed with the occasional groovin' cover song, while the driving rhythms and compelling sax and guitar solos bring power and style to the ensemble.

Playing a range of styles from straight ahead jazz to funk and Brazilian music, Grooveyard Shift is a band that will have your head bobbing and your feet moving before you know what hit you and have you calling them your favorite band by the end of their performance!

The ensemble has shared the stage with many esteemed artists, including Kem, Anita Baker, Al Jarreau, Dave Koz, and more. Highlight performances include the JVC Jazz Festival, Oakland Jazz Festival, Yoshi’s, Mountain Winery, Bach Dancing and Dynamite Society, Fillmore Jazz Festival, North Beach Festival, and the Boom Boom Room and multiple past San Jose Jazz Summer Fests, that it’s hard to count!

The secret to Mystique’s “Musica Caliente” is buried in the mind of bandleader/bassist Edward Villalba. Since 1995, Mystique has been entertaining fans with a four-piece horn section—echoing thoughts and images of Tower of Power—and a Latino-inspired percussion section.

Band features on local television networks and radio stations like Kiss 98.1FM pushed their name to the top of Bay Area Latin bands, and in 2001, Mystique became the first Latin band to play a halftime show in the history of the National Football League.
