Live Music: Brian Andres & the Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel Friday Sept 6th @ 7pm

249590 170314666364425 6936295 nSan Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join San Jose Jazz and SPSM for a live performance by Brian Andres and the afro-cuban jazz cartel on Friday, September 6th, 2013 @ 7pm.

Latin Jazz. It’s been called La Combinación Perfecta. The perfect combination. The coming together of two worlds. The blending of two musical traditions. Jazz, a truly original art form born in the United States, espouses the freedom in music that its birth nation represents to the world. Latin: a generic term meant to encompass the numerous dance and folkloric musical styles of the Caribbean. Latin Jazz: part African, part European, it is to some, the ultimate American musical expression.

The San Francisco Bay Area has been a historic hotbed for Latin Jazz artists. From Cal Tjader to Armando Peraza, John Santos to Rebeca Mauleon. The Latin jazz tradition has thrived in the Bay Area. It is from this tradition that The Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel arrives. Lead by drummer Brian Andres, the group was formed to contribute its own mark to that storied history. Comprised of some of the most sought after musicians and music educators that the Bay Area has to offer, the ACJC never fails to perform its music at the highest level. The repertoire consists of original compositions as well as exciting original arrangements of classics from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the United States. The group is equally capable of performing a dance or concert repertoire, as well as educational presentations such as lectures, workshops or instruction focused on the musical instrumentation, composition and arranging or cultural significance and history of the music they perform.

271 20501904906 2635 nSan Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join SPSM for a live show with Stormy Strong on Saturday, August 17th, 2013 @ 8pm in the Market Plaza.

Sinking in deep with an unforgettably addictive sting, Stormy Strong's (real name) unique brand of "alternative saltwater rock" casts razor sharp hooks to the hungry masses. Stormy's honest bitter lyrics, raw emotion and anthemic melodies splice seamlessly with award winning song-writing that is fast approaching gale-force intensity.

Stormy's brand new EP "Take Her Down," recently recorded with music industry icons Lyle Workman (Frank Black, Sting, Todd Rundgren, Beck), Sean Beavan (Black Veil Brides, Guns N' Roses, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails), Tim Narducci (Systematic, Spiral Arms) and Chris Manning (Jellyfish), is already making waves across the internet.

The album's single "Jumpstart The Heart" was chosen as #1 in "Rick's Picks 2012" on Chicago's renowned "The Best Radio YouHave Never Heard" podcast, which also included songs from Smashing Pumpkins, Regina Spektor, Arcade Fire and Rage Against The Machine. Plus Stormy's unique cover of The Pixies, “Where is My Mind?” has been popular on iTunes, Spotify, Rdio, Mog and iHeart Radio.

Stormy has shared the stage with Blink-182, Bouncing Souls, No Use For A Name, Good Riddance, Dropkick Murphys, and Lagwagon. He is currently performing shows with his four piece band around the Bay Area.

AndreZydecoMagic webSan Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join SPSM & San Jose Jazz for a live performance with Andre Thierry & Zydeco Magic on Friday, August 16th, 2013 @ 7:00pm

Andre Thierry formed "Zydeco Magic” at the age of 12, and since inception he has performed with numerous visiting bands, such as the late John Delafose, his son, Geno Delafose, and many local Zydeco and Cajun bands. Thierry effortlessly moves through the single row, double row, triple row and piano key accordions, as well as displaying talent on the bass guitar, rhythm guitar and drums. Thanks to his parents and grandparents influences, Thierry sings traditional songs in English and Creole French. He is a gifted composer and song-writer as well. The Washington Post called Andre a “master” at “pumping out fast, funky rhythms on an instrument not usually associated with earthy syncopation.” Even the San Francisco Bay Area presented Andre Thierry and Zydeco Magic with the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame award for “Best Zydeco Group” in 2008. At only 32 years old, he is already a legend.

Live Music: Dara Tucker Friday Aug 9th @ 7:00pm

Dara Tucker 400x200San Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join SPSM and San Jose Jazz for a live performance by Dara Tucker on Friday, August 9th, 2013 @ 7:00pm

With subtly soulful undertones, she seeks to convey her pensive, searching, but always-hopeful outlook on life through her music. Dara Tucker’s original songs speak to her life philosophy.

“I discovered my own creative voice during my time abroad,” Tucker says. “That’s when I began to realize that true artistic expression comes from a very personal place. You can’t fake it. My songwriting speaks of some hard-learned lessons, and long-fought battles.”

Tucker was born into a musical family. So it’s no surprise that her love affair with music began at such an early age. The product of a music minister father, and a songstress mother, she began singing in her Tulsa, Oklahoma church at age 5.

Tucker currently stays in Nashville and performs regularly at Sambuca in Nashville's trendy gulch district, the legendary F. Scott's Restaurant and Jazz Bar in the Green Hills district, & the long-standing Jefferson Street Jazz and African Street Festivals. She has also performed at Snug Harbor in New Orleans, The Rutledge, Boscos and The 12th South Taproom.
