One part Exile on Main Street, one part Damn the Torpedoes, a dash of In Color, served up Live and Dangerous. 70s flavored boogie rock that harkens back to the Big Hooks and Big Guitars before all the big hair. Highly recommended for those who like to get down and get with it. Coming soon to a watering hole near you.

Live Music: The Ugetsu Project Friday June 14th @ 7:00pm

Anton Schwartz by Bruce Hudson 400x200San Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join us on Friday June 14th, 2013 @ 7:00pm for a live performance hosted by San Jose Jazz, with the Ugetsu Project.

On June 16, 1963, Art Blakey‘s sextet, having recently returned from a tour of Japan, played a concert at the world-famous Birdland in New York. The concert was recorded and issued as the album Ugetsu (which means “fantasy” in Japanese). It is one of the finest recordings Blakey ever made, featuring brilliant performances and compositions by the legendary members of the band, which included Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton and Freddie Hubbard. The recording was produced by legendary producer (and longtime San Francisco resident, now 90 years old) Orrin Keepnews.

To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the concert and the album, six of the Bay Area’s most accomplished jazz musicians will be performing the music of Ugetsu—music that is bold, richly textured, and, above all, swinging. Personnel include an all-star cast: Mike Olmos on trumpet and flugelhorn, Anton Schwartz on saxophone, John Grove on trombone, Adam Shulman on piano, Mike Bordelon on bass, and Greg Wyser-Pratte on drums.

mystique1 no logo 400x200San Pedro Square Market Live Music: Join us for a live performance hosted by San Jose Jazz, with Mystique Band on Friday, June 7th @ 7:00pm

The secret to Mystique’s “Musica Caliente” is buried in the mind of bandleader/bassist Edward Villalba. Since 1995, Mystique has been entertaining fans with a four-piece horn section—echoing thoughts and images of Tower of Power—and a Latino-inspired percussion section.

Band features on local television networks and radio stations like Kiss 98.1FM pushed their name to the top of Bay Area Latin bands, and in 2001, Mystique became the first Latin band to play a halftime show in the history of the National Football League.

Brooke D. is a Bay Area native that has been performing as an acoustic solo act for 5 years.

She released her first, self-recorded album in December of 2008, "The Suite EP". After performing at small venues in San Francisco for two years and working with producers at Pyramind Studios, she went on to record a full-length album, released in May of 2010, "Stories". As she continued to progress as a solo artist, she began to collaborate and perform with various musicians such as The Emerald Hill (Folk), Owl Paws (Acoustic Indie) and The Lemme Adams (Accordion Funk).

Following her first full-length, Brooke D. wrote an album of lullabies, meant to be listened to by children and adults of all ages, "Cities Rise Up from the Mattress EP", released in March of 2011.

While her musical journey started with just piano and vocals, in June of 2011, she decided to experiment with vocal looping and beat boxing, on a Line 6 DL4 Delay pedal. After a month locked away in her room, performing sporadically and recording YouTube videos of her process, she wrote an entire A cappella (instrument-less) album, "The Little Green Monster EP", which was officially released September 2011.

Her sixth solo album, "As We Pictured", will be available January 2013.
