Frederick's musical lineage begins in his early childhood. At the age of 4, he learned how to sing and play the drums along side his father, who served as a minister and organist for his congregation. Although Frederick's passion began with gospel music, he later developed an appreciation for a variety of genres. His desire to be immersed in music propelled him to join various music groups in high school, including the orchestra and jazz bands, in which he played several instruments including the saxophone and clarinet.
During his college years at Stanford, he continued to be a vital part of the artistic community. Outside of his studies, he spent most of his free time directing the Stanford Gospel Choir and co founding Inphanyte, the University's student record label.
After finishing college in 2005, and dabbling in the working world as an A & R rep for a publishing company, Frederick set out to concentrate more of his efforts on singing and producing. Spending most of his free time making instrumentals, Frederick finally realized that he needed to collaborate with a group of seasoned writers. Later, he teamed up with two of his college friends, Jim Chitty and Jonathan Jones, to compile his first solo album.
