Trumpeter and Yamaha Performing Artist John Worley brings together old and new friends with "Cookin' at the Market." This project will feature John and friends in three different musical settings.

John's friendship with Portland trumpeter, Ron Howard goes back to the 80’s when they both played in big bands and “casuals” in San Francisco.  Ron eventually moved to the Pacific Northwest and recently has been arranging works for his new group PDX Brass.  PDX Brass features three trumpets and rhythm section and will open for saxophonist Vincent Herring at Jimmy Mack’s jazz club in Portland this coming December.  John will be joining Ron and PDX Brass for this exciting event.

Up and coming vocalist Jackie Gage was featured with the Touch of Brass Big Band led by veteran trumpeter Ed Morrison on the Silicon Valley Stage at the 2013 San Jose Jazz Summerfest.  Jackie was recently awarded the San Jose Rotary Club Leigh Weimers Emerging Artist Award and a residency at the Blackbird Tavern in San Jose.  Jackie and John will be playing tunes from their recent collaboration at the Naglee Park Garage and Blackbird Tavern.

Saxophonist Oscar Pangilinan and John are co-leaders of the Red Dragon Quintet.  For 2 ½ years, the Red Dragon Quintet was the house band for the Hedley Club Jazz Jam, which is located in the historic Hotel De Anza in downtown San Jose.  The Red Dragon Quintet played at the San Jose Jazz Winterfest  and  Summerfest  in 2012.  Joining Oscar and John are pianist Nicole Boaz, Mo-Chi Quartet member’s bassist Ken Okada and drummer Wally Schnalle.
